Select the template you want, and select Use template. This example shows the Issue tracker template. If you don't see a template that you want, select Back to return to the Create a list chooser. For details about the available templates, see List templates. Enter a name for your list, an optional description, select an optional color, icon, site to save to, and then click Create.

The first time you use a template, you can use the name of the template as the name of your list. After that, you'll need to update the name to something unique. Lists that you save to My lists are saved in your own personal storage. You can share them with other people from there, but you can't easily move them to an existing site.

This opens the New item form for the template that you've selected. Complete the column values for the New item form, and then click Save.

Create a list from a template. However, a list template that was created on a Teams site can be used on a different Teams site. For the list template that you want to upload, either enter the path and filename including the file extension , or to select the file, select Browse.

Choose whether to overwrite the existing files. By default, the Overwrite existing file checkbox is selected. Note: If the Overwrite existing file checkbox is selected, a list template that is already stored in the content database, and that has the same name as the file you are uploading will be overwritten. If you attempt to upload a list template that already exists in the content database and this checkbox is not selected, an error dialog appears.

On the ribbon, select List , and then select List Settings. Note: Do not add a file extension to the filename. On the Site Actions menu , select Site Settings. Note: On a site for which the Site Actions menu is customized, point to Site Settings , and then select the settings that you want to view.

For the list template that you want to delete, in the Edit column, select Edit. You can upload list templates that were downloaded to a file on the file system to the list template gallery. Note: If the Overwrite existing file checkbox is selected, a list template that is already stored in the content database and that has the same name as the file you are uploading will be overwritten.

If you attempt to upload a list template that already exists in the content database, and this checkbox is not selected, an error dialog appears. For the list template that you want to delete, in the Edit column, select Edit Document Properties. For the list template that you want to edit, in the Edit column, select Edit Document Properties.

In the Name column, for the list template that you want to download, select the link. If you get a Download complete dialog, select Close , or select the X. A list template with a calendar overlay will require manual adjustment. After creating a new list from the template, delete each overlay and add it again. We do not support saving a library as a template with a document set. When a new library is created with a template containing a document set, you may encounter errors.

You can create new lists using your saved list template as you do any other template. List templates are stored in the template gallery, and appear with other apps and templates.

For more info about using list templates or list apps, see Create a list in SharePoint. Open the list that you want to save as a template. The Save as Template page appears. In the File Name field, enter the filename to use for the template file. As a global or SharePoint admin in Microsoft , you can provide custom list templates for users in your organization.

When users create new lists, they can select from these templates alongside the built-in templates from Microsoft. This enables your organization to create repeatable list solutions in SharePoint, Teams, and within the Lists app itself. Run the following command to extract the site script output from an existing list and write it to a variable:. Reference the variable in the following command to upload a site script that can be used with a list design.

When users in your organization create a list in SharePoint, Teams, or the Lists app , they'll see the template on the "From your organization" tab. List templates can't be updated after you add them. Instead, remove the existing template and add the updated version.
