We've had a hiring freeze and have been unable to replace lost workers. We are scheduled to lose many more early next year as we lose limited-term employees and all of our temporary staff.
Many of the temporary staff are Key Data Operators who enter applications into the waterfowl and big game drawing databases. We will redirect enough staff to finish the waterfowl season. The license sales counter will still be open for about six hours each day, but only for commercial licenses, to distribute forms and information. They are scheduled to lose all but one employee. The Branch is responsible for printing, distributing and accounting for hunting, sport fishing, commercial fishing licenses and special permits such as restricted species, game breeders and pheasant clubs.
We also, perform drawings for waterfowl and big game. Remaining staff will continue to perform these duties. I was hoping to hear that we would receive a last minute reprieve.
I've had the pleasure of meeting many of you at the license sales counter. I apologize for our inability to provide good customer service.
